Get Involved With Sustainability Research 6-7 PM EST
Sriramya D. Nair, Ph.D.
Concrete is a widely used construction material and its inexpensive. However, there are a few existing challenges with use of concrete. The primary ingredient in concrete is portland cement which is manufactured and leads to about 5-8% of global CO2 emissions. Dr. Nair's lab uses various tools to characterize alternate, sustainable cementitious materials and to understand which ones would be more durable than our currently used traditional materials.
Brett Fors, Ph.D.
Polymers have many important functions for the medical, automotive, and construction industries. To reduce their negative impact on the environment, Dr. Fors' group has developed sustainable pathways to monomers from biorenewable feedstocks. The research focuses on the synthesis of new renewable monomers, design and characterization of robust polymers, and adoption of green chemistry methods.
Karin E. Olson Hoal, Ph.D.
Dr. Olson's focus area relates to helping transform the minerals and energy industries become more innovative and sustainable while providing the essential materials and power needed. Her work involves building interdisciplinary approaches that link geological variability with positive business outcomes. This requires cross-functional approaches and new data-centric 3D models, as well as partnerships with industry and financial institutions.

How can small steps make a big difference? Focusing on local actions and local partnerships is crucial in uniting towards a common cause for grassroots movements. These are often the initiatives that are most overlooked, but the exact ones that Cornell Votes has capitalized on in order to increase voter turnout. Carbon Calculations Workshop
Have you ever wondered what companies mean when they say they are carbon negative? How is carbon footprint actually calculated? There is much uncertainty surrounding the true metrics of carbon calculating, an issue the “Carbon Calculators” team on Cornell Sustainability Consultants (CSC) has spent the past two semesters researching. The team works on identifying the carbon footprint of small businesses looking to purchase carbon offsets, using a calculator the team built using EPA data. Carbon calculations are pertinent not only for businesses but individuals as well! Join us for this talk on carbon calculating and understanding what it means at the business level, and measuring your own carbon footprint.
Ecofeminism: Connections Between Women and Nature
Have you ever wondered about the exploitation of the natural world and how it affects women? Starting from the 1970s, “ecofeminism” has gained traction as a part of the feminist movement. Join the Women's Leadership Initiative to listen to a presentation and participate in a roundtable discussion about the five most important components of this trailblazing movement, and what you can do to help!

Uniting for a Sustainable Future with
Adam Met
7:00-8:30 PM EST
A multi-platinum selling recording-artist barely scratches the surface of the interdisciplinary pursuits of Adam Met. As the bassist for AJR, Adam has traveled the world on sold-out tours, has achieved platinum certifications in numerous countries, and has recorded a repertoire of music which has garnered over 2 billion streams worldwide. A graduate of Columbia University, Adam received a dual degree in Business and Philosophy. He also holds a Master’s from New York University in Constitutional Religious Law and is currently pursuing his PhD in International Human Rights Law in the UK, advocating for a reconciling of tensions between sustainable development and legal human rights obligations.
Adam’s work with the UN Development Programme as a Sustainable Development Advocate fosters awareness of both rights violations and solutions to his social media followers and beyond. Speaking at conferences as well as on television and industry panels, Adam has developed a unique perspective, which intersects a variety of worlds: music, marketing, technology, academia, policy, and government. He has written on these topics for Billboard Magazine, Fortune Magazine, and Mashable, and is the host of the podcast Planet Reimagined. Adam used these skills to start Sustainable Partners Inc (SPI), an interdisciplinary nonprofit that creates engagement around sustainability through media, research, and incentive-based initiatives. Adam’s passion for interdisciplinarity permits him to forge multiple simultaneous paths while using each to support the others.
